Master Bath
I wasn’t planning to change this room until much later (next year), but since I already had people working on other tile installs, plumbing, and drywall, then it made sense to get this room done now. Was it easy to make rushed decisions on an entire home? No. It was pretty daunting, BUT I had the immense help and experience from my mom (a retired kitchen and bath interior designer).
This room had mostly cosmetic changes! I didn’t need to change the plumbing locations, or change the layout. In fact, that saved me a ton of money. Now that it’s done, it feels like a modern, clean, mellow space. I’m so glad its all done! A few quick tips: things to research first would be the sink, vanity, and shower tile. Then pick all of your other accessories after that (faucets, lights, decor, etc)!
Details:
When I bought the home:
The master bathroom felt small and dark, there was wallpaper on the walls and ceilings of the bathroom. The shower was one giant plastic insert and there was fluorescent lighting above the shower. The flooring was old tile and carpet. There was only one light fixture, above the sink and only one sink (but there was already plumbing for 2 sinks inside the cabinet). There was no door between the bedroom and bathroom and there were lots of random cabinets inside the closet area. Also, since the closet and bathroom had large mirrors, it felt like you were walking into a hall of mirrors with reflections everywhere.
The Plan:
Remove the wallpaper and redo the drywall, remove the wall between the sink and toilet, replace the closet doors (no mirrors), replace the sink mirrors, and a second sink, replace the floor, add recessed lighting, remove the cabinets in the closet and re-build the closet, remove the door to the toilet and add a door to the bedroom, replace the toilet with a taller chair height model, replace the exhaust fan, move the vent, remove the shower and redo the walls and shower pan, paint the walls.
